The D1 Training Story

After a storied career, first playing with Peyton Manning at the University of Tennessee and then as Captain of its National Championship team, Will Bartholomew suffered what would become a career ending injury during a non-contact drill with the Denver Broncos. He came home to rehab with aspirations of making it back to the league but had no place to truly train. No place that would allow him to recover and optimize his performance. At that time, most places were akin to a traditional box gym that had no appetite for training at the level of an elite athlete let alone any type of guided group fitness opportunities. That’s when he realized, there was no place to train like he did at a Division 1 school, with the best coaches, equipment, workout programs and community.

It was with this simple realization that he started the D1 journey. What began over 17 years ago as training kids in a field evolved into 30+ training facilities all over the country producing some of the best athletes in the world. The basis for this success is Will’s passion for training and motivation and a strong team around him. Early on in the growth of D1, Will partnered with Dan Murphy (a West Point graduate and one of D1’s original members), to develop a sustainable growth plan all predicated on one thing, D1’s mission – to inspire others to be their best. The two distilled their collegiate training experience into what is now known as D1’s 5 Star Training program where every workout adheres to the 5 tenets of athletic-based training:

  • Dynamic Warm Up
  • Performance Module
  • Strength Training
  • Core & Conditioning
  • Cool Down

And what began as training solely for the aspiring youth athlete matured into training adults as well with all who participate in the D1 Training process moving aggressively towards their goals. Now, it is no longer Will’s presence on the turf fueling the growth of D1 but the thousands and thousands of athletes, dedicated to their training and capturing their goals.

Nothing at D1 is random. Every workout, every day follows a strategic 5 to 8 week training cycle that is meticulously planned and sports science backed to achieve your goals.
