Athletes Share Personal D1 Stories: 'It Brings Back Nostalgic Feel Of High School Weight Room' | D1 Daily

D1 Daily is a curated list of anecdotes and links with an eye towards training. The suggestion box is open.
Whatever your goals may be, D1 can help you reach them. Here are some testimonials from member athletes on how training at D1 has impacted their lives:
'A Really Good Feeling To Have'
“I was skeptical and nervous of trying out D1 at the end of March, as I really have only done strength based workouts at home or in the gym, but I love Wednesday morning full body cardio days that really push me to my limits and have been trying to come every week to those to push myself to hit my goals of toning/weight loss and overall fitness and feeling better. I do feel like I am getting stronger although the coaches have a way of kicking my butt every week and making me sweat like never before, which is a really good feeling to have. I look forward to continuing my journey at D1 as a young adult out of college figuring out new ways to move my body.”
'It Brings Back The Nostalgic Feel Of The High School Weight Room'
"Growing up, I was always active, whether it was riding bikes with friends or wrestling/football in high school. All of my activity shared a common variable, and that was doing whatever it was with friends or teammates. After high school, I went to college and tried maintaining my active lifestyle, but with classes and other non-curricular activities, I let my fitness get away from me. I lost the accountability from my peers, there wasn't any motivation, and I started to gain weight and lose confidence. Fast forward almost 8 years, I've graduated, gotten married, and have a job. However, I was still inactive and not eating the best. My wife was the one who found D1 and urged me to try it out. After just one week of attending, I can tell it was a place I'd like to stay. It brings back the nostalgic feel of the high school weight room with all of your teammates hyping you up and the coaches are phenomenal at their jobs and keeping everyone safe and having fun."
'It's Not Just A Regular Gym. It's A Family And A Community'
“Growing up I was always picked last for a team. Throughout high school, I never felt very athletic enough to compete or wasn't able to compete due to not being simply good enough. I feel like now the training that we do and the workouts have shaped me into the most athletic I have ever been. I tell a lot of people that I try to convince to come to D1 to workout that it's not just a regular gym. It's a family and a community. The coaches and staff want to see you hit your goals and want to see you in the building. They enjoy your presence of showing up for the class. D1 is legit. It works, and they are not playing around. I have never felt stronger, faster, more athletic than i have before and I'm just starting.”
'Inspired By The Strength Of The Women In Class'
"I had been bringing my son to D1 for about 6 months when I decided to join. I had seen how great the Rookie classes were and I had caught glimpses of the adult class either ending or going on simultaneously and it got me interested. I had been nearing the end of my half-marathon training and I felt like I was missing something, I had been spending all of my time running and not enough time building strength to support my endurance at that distance. From the very first class, I knew that this was what I needed. I credit the work I put in at D1 with getting me through my race at my lower predicted pace (2:17)! Now that I'm not training for the half anymore, the focus on building strength has been transformative. I feel the best I have ever felt at 38. I feel strong and energized. Every class I attend, I am inspired by the strength of the women in class who are so supportive. I'm thankful that I'm pushed to do my best and that I've learned so much about form and the weight room in general."
