This is what can happen when you nurture young athletes.

Jason Marshall is the General Manager at D1 Training Boerne in Boerne, Texas. He has known most of the local Little League team that trains there, in one form or another, since they were 9 and 10 years old. This week, these boys are playing in the Little League World Series, representing the Southwestern U.S., with an entire community cheering them on.

About half the team trains steadily at D1, and others have taken advantage of training camps or classes, like the Developmental class for Scholastic Athletes.

“Some of these boys trained all summer long,” Marshall said. “They love D1. When we asked them to pose for the photo, they asked to stand in front of the D1 logo.”

The boys came to D1 because they wanted to be better ball players.

“They get introduced to us because they want to play baseball,” said Marshall. “Then they want strength and conditioning training, rotational power, and ankle knee mobility. What we do here impacts so many kids. These kids just happen to be really good at baseball.”

Marshall brings over two decades of Division I baseball coaching to his position at D1 Training, so the sport is near and dear to his heart. Like all expert coaches at D1, serving athletes is a passion, especially when you have a chance to impact their mindset as well as their physical training.

“The character component of D1 Training is the backbone of the business,” said Marshall, and what drew him to D1. Words like Dedication, Self-Respect, and Discipline are printed on the walls of every D1 facility; there’s one for every month, along with “Iron Sharpens Iron.”

“The words open the doors to so many great conversations,” said Marshall “Sports are the door to a lot of things we do in life; teamwork, respect, loving people well, camaraderie, showing up for each other.” Coaches at D1 Training Boerne work the words into the classes and the culture.

“There’s no doubt,” Marshall said. “We have the kids stop for a second, pick a word off the wall and tell us what it means to them. We ask them how that word can apply to the workout. That’s a big coaching point for sure.”

This week these kids are talking about two other big words: World. Series. You can follow them here. We wish them the best of luck!
