D1 Training Has the Write Stuff to Shoot Sharpie® Commercial with Rome Ordunze and Michael Penix Jr.

D1 Training Huntington Beach served as the ideal background for a recently shot Sharpie® S-Gel Pen commercial featuring consecutive 2024 First Round Draft picks Rome Ordunze and Michael Penix Jr. The new ad, which reminds players that a Sharpie® S-Gel Pen is an excellent tool for signing contracts, footballs, and other autographs, features Ordunze and Penix Jr. working out and running drills inside the D1 Training Huntington Beach facility.

Sharpie® made sure Michael Penix Jr. and Rome Odunze trained for peak signature performance ahead of draft day. As the first Sharpie Rookies of The Year, Penix and Odunze will exclusively use Sharpie products at pivotal moments throughout their rookie year in the pros. The Sharpie Signature Combine prepared them for the most important moment of their careers: the day they sign their rookie contracts.

Utilizing the D1 Training facility made sense for the ad, aired just before and during the NFL Draft coverage. D1 Training is a brand that prides itself on its 5-Star Training Program that gives athletes a Division I kind of training experience, including Combine training for the NFL.

D1 Training Huntington Beach owner, Brian Chinn, said their team was happy to host the film crew and players. “There were several different facilities in the area they were considering but they really liked our turf and the look of the facility, so that was awesome to get that feedback and have them film here.”

The filming of the ad made for a fun day for the D1 team, who posted about the making of the ad on their Instagram story, and were thrilled with the way everything turned out. “Seeing them shooting in the weightroom was so cool because the way they lit the room made the Sorinex racks look so good!” said Chinn.

“And then I think just having the athletes in there was fun for us, and then seeing them both go on to get selected in the first round of the NFL draft was amazing,” Chinn said. Rome Ordunze, WR, was drafted to the Chicago Bears. Michael Penix Jr, QB, will play for the Atlanta Falcons.
