Training Tips Done Right with D1: Bench Press Tips
Author: D1 TrainingIn this video, Coach Jacob from D1 Training Grand Rapids demonstrates the importance of proper set up and execution when on the bench doing a barbell bench press.
- First, it’s important to maintain five points of contact: Both feet on the ground, your butt firmly on the bench, lay back and have both shoulders flat.
- When you lay under the bar, make sure it is even with your eyes. This is the most comfortable position to un-rack the bar and return it to the starting position.
- Most barbells are marked where to put your hands. This is your grip, and should be even on both sides, just outside of shoulder width.
- Un-rack the bar, arms straight, lower it to just above your lower chest. Lower the bar until it touches your chest and then push it back up until your arms are straight and the bar is back above your eyes.
- Repeat for the desired number of reps and re-rack.
