George Fant Uses D1 To Help NC State's Scottie Ebube Transition From Basketball To NFL | D1 Daily

George Fant, a 10-year NFL veteran who transitioned from basketball to football after his collegiate career, is passing on what he learned to other athletes looking to make the transition.
Most recently, Fant has been training at D1 Cool Springs with Scottie Ebube, North Carolina State's 6-foot-10 center who wants to trade the hardwood for the gridiron.
Ebube's size, strength and experience are attributes Fant believes can translate to football.

“I see all the traits of an elite offensive tackle with some time and some nurture in this game,” said Fant. "There's a lot of really good offensive line coaches that do a great job with developing players. It's a project, but I know the NFL loves projects."
Fant recently shared with D1 Combine Training athletes how his improbable journey—from a college basketball player who hadn’t played football since eighth grade to a 10-year NFL offensive tackle—was built on athleticism, relentless preparation and treating every opportunity as earned. Drawing on his training with D1 senior director of coaching Clif Marshall before his pro day, Fant emphasized that the path doesn’t have to be perfect, but sustained effort, readiness and competing every day are what lead to lasting success.
Fant has started a business, Sundays Project Sports Group, around this idea of helping basketball players transition to football. Fant previously worked with former Coastal Carolina basketball player Colin Granger in 2025, helping Granger get signed by the Carolina Panthers as a tight end.
Ebube's only been at it for a couple weeks, and he's made substantial progress. Along with Fant, Ebube has been going through training sessions with D1 coach Davion Taylor, a three-year NFL veteran who also has spent time in the Canadian Football League.
“I'm getting better every single day,” said Ebube. “It's amazing, it's been a great experience and I'm going to learn from him.”

Fant added that Ebube is “as good as he could get in one week.” If anyone knows what it takes to make the cross-sport transition, it's Fant.
“It's something I definitely have the credentials to do,” Fant said. “I know the words to make it translate to a basketball guy; to make it click.”
