On May 30, D1 Niceville owner Steven Killebrew posted to Instagram a new fitness challenge, created by head coach William Cotten, open to any participant.
"It's a full body, triple extension, physically and mentally exhausting challenge," Killebrew said. "It's meant to see how deep the athlete will dig in to complete the challenge in the fastest time."
The workout consists of:
• 21 kcals burned on an exercise bike
• 21 up downs
• 21 V-ups
• 15 kcals burned on an exercise bike
• 15 up downs
• 15 V-ups
• 9 kcals burned on an exercise bike
• 9 up downs
• 9 V-ups
Coach Cotten did the challenge himself and finished in 4 minutes, 30 seconds.
Since then, athletes and coaches have attempted to beat the time. Killebrew's son even competed in the challenge, finishing in 7 minutes, 30 seconds.
Another athlete to compete in it was former NFL linebacker Jarret Johnson, who played 12 seasons for the Ravens (2003-2011) and Chargers (2012-14). Johnson also competed in the challenge fresh off an intense Saturday-morning workout. He completed the challenge in 4 minutes, 36 seconds.
Killebrew said Johnson, who lives in the area, is all-in on D1.
"I love that he and his family are here," Killebrew said. "They recognize what it is we do here at D1 and how it's different than other gyms. They see the benefit of D1."
And by having other members compete in the challenge, Killebrew is hoping to inspire his athletes.
"My vision," says Killebrew, "is to be the place where goals are reached, new disciplines are instilled, lives are transformed, and every athlete is taught how to be fit beyond just the physical, one rep at a time!"
